Kapa Haka Festival 2020

 Kapa Haka Festival 2020

In Term 4, Week 6, on Wednesday, WBS (Wainui Beach School) finally had our Kapa Haka Festival. We had been practising Kapa haka for the whole year and, to be honest, got over practising the songs over and over again.

As soon as the whole of Moana got their Kapa Haka uniforms and mokos on, we hopped on the bus and drove towards the festival. When we arrived, the front row got their pew pews on and the rest of the rows lined up. We practised a few of our songs then got ready to set foot on the stage.

All of the rows walked onto the large stage at the same time and started to line up in straight rows. When the boys sorted out their rows, Matiria and Klara started off the song E te ariki. We all huddled in a bunch and started to sing. (It is extremely loud when you are all huddled in a bunch).

After E te ariki Matiria and Klara started the song Utaina. (Utaina is one of my favorite songs). Girls and boys sing the same song the first time we sing the song but in the second round, the boys sing a haka when the girls carry on singing. During the second round the girls start to move backwards when the boys move forwards.

With the boys at the front and the girls at the back, the boys start to chant the haka. One of the hakas is Kamate Kamate. The girls had to join in and chant the haka with the boys too.

Still at the back, Matiria and Klara started off Rona e. In this song the girls use the poi and the boys do actions to the song. The poi actions are pretty easy.  Most of it is just swinging around the poi but it still looks really cool. In the second round of Rona e, the girls move forwards again and the boys move backwards.

After Rona e the girls and boys both sing Wainui e, our school song. During the song the boys walk off the stage and then the girls but the front row of girls stay on until the end.

The Kapa Haka Festival was so fun. I cant wait until next year.

A Trip to Phitia Farm

 A Trip to Phitia Farm

During week 9, day 2 (Tuesday) WBS went to Phitia Farm... well it is not that dramatic. Anyway, here is a blog on a farm trip. Yay.

Station 1: The Cow

As soon as we hopped of the bus, we were sorted into lines and were split up into different stations. The first station was the cow (hints the sub-title). So we got to go visit a female cow. On the bench, in the middle of the paddock, there was whipped cream, milk, chocolate milk, cheese and butter. My arms got so tired when everyone took turns shaking cows milk.

Station 2: The Butcher

The next stop we got to was the butcher. We had to see a year old lamb get chopped up by a butcher. I stayed and watched the poor thing get butchered but other people (mostly girls) went out and did not want to watch it.

Station 3: The Vehicles

The 3rd stop was vehicles. There were 4 vehicles that we could climb on and play on, a tractor, a 4 wheel drive, a motorcycle and a farm truck with 2 dog cages in the back. The tractor was green, the 4 wheel drive and the motorcycle was red and the truck was white.

Station 4: The Drone

Stop 4 was the drone. At the drone we got to watch a tv that attached to the drone so were ever the drone went we could see where it was going. We even saw a crashed 4 wheel drive but it was only fake though!

Last Station: Sheep

The last station of our trip was the sheep. We got to see farm dogs herd sheep into the corner of the paddock. There was a woof woof dog and a stare stare dog. The woof woof dog barked at the sheep and the stare stare dog stared at the sheep to herd them. We also got to see sheep get shorn!

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed going on this trip!!

Learning Through Play

 Learning Through Play

Two weeks ago, we started a session called LTP (Learning Through Play). Room 1, 2, 3 and 4 are participating in this learning. Our options were Planet Construction, Makey Makey, Junky Monkey and Cardboard Nation. (My favorite one was Junky Monkey).

Room 1: Planet Construction

Over in room 1, they had Planet Construction. In Planet Construction you could build creations with Lego and other items (I forgot what they were called ). Some weeks we got to have free play and create whatever we want but other weeks, there are themes or challenges on what to create.

Room 2: Makey Makey

Next door from room 1, there is room 2 with Makey Makey. During Makey Makey, like room 1, some weeks you can discover whatever you want while other weeks you have to discover what is on the board (I like doing the free play more). PS: Room 2 is my class.

Room 3: Junky Monkey

My favorite LTP place is Junky Monkey. In Junky Monkey  you can take apart toys and put them together in a different way (things can get really weird here). One time I was doing Junky Monkey, i took apart grumble fart (a grumbley monster that grumbles and farts) and gave him a massive hair cut! In Junky Monkey, every week you can make whatever you want!

Room 4: Cardboard Nation

Last but not least we have room 4 with Cardboard Nation. In Cardboard Nation, you can make anything out of cardboard (hinst the name). There is not only cardboard but also moving parts but you can not take the moving parts home (so don't get too excited).

I hope that reading this has made you interested in our LTP. What is your favorite LTP activity?

Dinosaur Park in Rotorua

Dinosaur Park in Rotorua

During the first week of the holidays we drove all the way to Rotorua with Nana and Poppa. We were heading towards the Dinosaur Park!

Me, Link and Fox couldn't wait to go in. Near the front, there were dinosaur animatronics! There was a T-rex, Ankylosaurus, Diplodocus, Triceratops, Styracosaurus, Spinosaurus and many others. Poppa took photos of us with the animatronics then we entered the giant tent.

Inside the tent there were giant bouncy castles but they were dinosaur themed. The first one had two steep slides, 7 dinos, a giant climbing frame and a climbing rope. The second one had 2 long slides, 2 dino eggs, 1 rideable T-rex, a soft rock climb and a hollow tree stump.

Before we left I got a hat Link and Fox got a Light Sword. None of us wanted to leave this awesome place!!

Zentangle art

ZenTangle Art

Before lockdown we started an art piece called zentangle art.
We had to base it on our school pepeha.

The Lighthouse

One part of our pepeha is the lighthouse. Last week we went on a lighthouse walk.
The walk was long but fun because there were lots of interesting creatures to see.
My favorite part of the walk was stepping over and dodging stones and rocks!
When we made it to the lighthouse we sang our school pepeha.
This is one of the zentangle art themes.

Moengaroa

During the lighthouse walk we passed Moengaroa, our monga.
Moengaroa is another part to our school pepeha.
When we passed it it looked huge.
I was so desperate to climb Moengaroa but we were not allowed.
This is another zentangle art theme.

Hamanatua

Hamanatua is a part of our pepeha and zentangle art.
Our awa is Hamanatua. We walk down to our awa about once a term.
In the area we usually plant plants and pick up rubbish!
Hamanatua is my favorite part of the art!

Te poho rari

Last but not least our marae. Te poho rari is our marae's name.
Last year we had a sleepover at our marae. We did lots of activities there like art.
For dinner we had nachos! Te poho rari is the last part of our zentangle art.

I can't wait to finish my zentangle art!

Lockdown Learning

Lockdown Learning

During the lockdown we still did school activities even though we were not at school. Every week was a new theme and every Friday we dressed up as that theme.

 Week 1: ANZAC Day
On our first week of lockdown learning our theme was ANZAC day. Our teacher put up a check off list with lots of activities to complete. There were word finds, 10 WW1 (world war 1) questions and even poppy art. My favorite activity was making ANZAC biscuits (who does not like cookies?) On Friday we dressed up as poppies!

 Week 2: Animal Kingdom
Our second week's theme was animals. There were 4 groups we could choose from. The African big 4, sharks, big cats and reptiles. My group was reptiles because lizards and snakes are the closest I could get to a dragon (because I love dragons). Some of the activities were making a mask, making a diorama and guessing the mystery animal. My favorite one was making a mini animal. On Friday I dressed up as a horned lizard.

 Week 3: World Famous
Our third week’s theme was World Famous. Like Animal Kingdom, there were 4 groups. I was in Movie. We could be any famous person in that theme and I was Benedict Cumberbatch. Some of the tasks were a quiz, magazine cover and even a face morph (I have no idea what that is). On Friday I dressed up Smaug because Benedict Cumberbatch (wow that is hard to spell) did the voice of smaug.

 Week 4: Story Time
On our last week of lockdown (finally) our theme was Story Time. We could choose any book character to work on. My book character was Saphira from Eragon. Some of the activities were a book cover, a book review and even a wanted poster. My favorite task was the wanted poster. On Friday I dressed up as Saphira (because that was my character).

Lockdown was pretty fun but we are back at school. YAY!

Swimming Sports!!

Swimming Sports!

Today we went to the Enterprize Pools. After we hopped into the bus we drove all the way to the Enterprize Pools. I sat next to Josie. When we got there we ran out off the bus, ran inside and then into the girls changing rooms. We got dressed, walked towards the seats then plopped down our bags. There were 3 rows the first was for year 4s, the second was year 5s and the third was year 6s.

After the year 4 girls and boys went, it was my year groups turn. Guess what group I am in. Comment down below. I stood up onto the ramp and got my arms in position. BUZZ! The buzzer went and we all dived in. At first I was doing pretty great but later on I was coming last! Well yeah. I didn't do so well in free-style. When the rest of the year groups finished it was time for backstroke!

Like last time year 4s went first and then us. This time we started in the pool instead of diving. I gripped onto the wall ready for the buzzer. BUZZ! I pushed of the wall with and started to porpell my arms and kick my legs. I couldn't tell if I was coming 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th. When we got to the end I came 4th.

It was time for breast stroke but I didn't choose to do breast stroke so I waited on the side lind. I was there for about an hour before it was time to get changed. After that we got on the bus and drove back to school.

Swimming sports was so fun! I can't wait to do it next year.

My Most AMAZING Few Weeks back at School!!

My Most Amazing few Weeks Back at School!!

What an amazing start to the year I have had in Moana Learning Hub.

First up we have people bingo! We had to go around MLH (Moana Learning Hub) and see if any one could mark off a square on the paper. Some options were going to the moves in the weekends, gone fishing of the wharf and even if they could touch their nose with there tongue. There are more than you expect.

Our buzz groups! near the middle of the week we got given a piece of paper witch had different words on them. My one said porcine. We had to find 6 other people whose words meant the same thing. My group was group pig. Later on we did some games in the hall like running with balloons and building a tower with cups.

On every day of the week we have been doing quick writes. Our first quick write was chocolate vs cheese, our second one was cats vs dogs our third one was aliens vs robots, our forth one was ice age vs jurassic, our fifth one was invisibility vs flying and our most recent one was unicorns vs dragons. Which vs would you chose? Comment down below.

Our collaborative art! Later on we got given some tiny itty bitty pieces of paper. Each one of them had a different picture on them and I got given one with some berries and a birds tail on it. We had to copy the picture and draw it on a slightly bigger piece of paper. Then when we drew it on we had to color it in with pastels and sometimes blend.

Wow! My first few weeks back at school has been so amazing. I can't wait to see what my next few weeks will be like. I bet they will be great!
